● An enhanced NSGA-III algorithm structure incorporating an Aspen convergence penalty function was developed. ● The search characteristics and optimization process of the complex distillation three-objective problem were investigated. ● Compared to NSGA-II, the obtained Pareto frontier quality has markedly improved.
