New DNA-hash-based message authentication codes

Abstract

DNA computing represents a modern computational paradigm that leverages biological molecules to perform parallel information processing beyond the limits of traditional silicon-based systems. Message authentication verifies the integrity and authenticity of transmitted messages. It plays a crucial role in various real-world applications, including online banking transactions, secure email protocols, and military communications. This paper presents two DNA-based algorithms for generating message authentication codes using hash functions. The first algorithm is based on the Whirlpool hash function, and the second is based on the MD5 hash function. The proposed algorithms offer three key advantages: (1) high speed; (2) security, due to the use of cryptographically secure hash functions; and (3) no requirement for public-key infrastructure.
