• N-rGO/CF bioanode achieves a record power density of 2418 mW m−2. • One-step hydrothermal method integrates GO reduction and N-doping simultaneously. • Charge transfer resistance drops 83.1% relative to bare carbon felt anode. • COD removal reaches 89.4% with 34.7% coulombic efficiency after 120 h.
