We propose a method to conctruct noncoherent-coded modulation (NCM) by modifying the conventional trellis-coded modulation (TCM) as proposed by Ungerboeck. The error performance of the modified TCM using noncoherent decoding can approach that of the conventional TCM using coherent decoding for additive white Gaussian noise.
