In 1995 a survey, termed the 'Termite Tally', was undertaken in Australia to measure the effect of age of a house on the probability that it had been attacked by termites. The data was obtained by asking the current homeowner for this information. It became apparent that in general, homeowners had information on the occurrence of termite attacks only if these attacks had occurred during their occupancy. On average this occupancy was 11 years. The primary aim of this paper is to present a statistical model of termite attack that compensates for this type of discrepancy. The use of this model for data calibration purposes is also discussed.
