• A bottom-up single-path pattern enumeration method has been proposed to avoid the generation of massive TV structures. • Three pruning strategies were developed to restrict the exploration space. Specifically, a novel pruning approach was devised to optimize mining effectiveness for trees that follow a single path. • Various databases were used in experiments to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm proposed in this paper in terms of runtime, space utilization, the number of candidate patterns, and scalability. • A case study is presented to illustrate the application of our proposed OPHEP-Miner algorithm for generating recommendations based on the movie dataset.
