• Polyvinylpyrrolidone and CTAB capped Mg(OH)2 were prepared by co-precipitation. • 4 wt.% of PVP doped showed high performance for OER and bactericidal behavior. • Highly doped sample showed maximum antibacterial activity against S. aureus. • In this study, fabricated electrodes have lowest OER overpotential of 264 mV.
