The readout is a dedicated time for the attending radiologist and the trainee to review patients' imaging studies together. It is a relatively unique, yet essential, feature of radiology training, and outside of didactic lectures, it serves as the only opportunity for attending radiologists to directly pass their knowledge and expertise to trainees (1). Therefore, it is important to optimize the readout experience for both the attending and the trainee. We consider three broad approaches to enhance the readout experience: (a) performing patient-centered rather than image-centered readouts, (b) tailoring readouts toward trainees' level of experience and taking ownership of cases, and (c) encouraging a departmen- tal culture that values readouts.
