• Palmatine chloride (PC) Palmatine chloride strongly inhibits Microcystis aeruginosa in a dose-dependent manner. • PC retains inhibitory activity under tested light and warm conditions. • PC impairs photosynthesis and induces oxidative and ultrastructural damage. • Transcriptomic and ATP data indicate altered cellular energy status.
