Abstract

In this paper, the plastic behavior of the multilayer foam-filled sinusoidal corrugated sandwich beam (FSCSB) under transverse loading is carried out theoretically and numerically. The yield criterion for the multilayer FSCSB section is established. A theoretical model is developed to investigate the plastic behavior of multilayer FSCSB under transverse loading. Numerical calculations are performed. The theoretical predictions demonstrate a strong correlation with the numerical results. The influences of the interlayer factor, thickness of the sinusoidal corrugation in the vertical direction, strength of the sinusoidal corrugation, foam strength, punch width, and the loading point location on the plastic behavior of multilayer FSCSB are discussed. Additionally, the effects of the interlayer factor, thickness of the sinusoidal corrugation in the vertical direction, strength of the sinusoidal corrugation, and foam strength on the specific energy absorption (SEA) and load efficiency (LE) of multilayer FSCSB are also discussed. The analytical model can provide an effective prediction of the plastic behavior of the multilayer FSCSBs.
