• Sequential earthquake was simulated by seismic shear stress and reconsolidation stage. • Effect of reconsolidation degree on post-cyclic shear behavior of soft clay was studied. • Relationship between cyclic and post-cyclic shear behaviors of soft clay was analyzed. • A prediction model for post-cyclic monotonic shear strength of soft clay was proposed.
