• Prenatal cadmium was not associated with behavioural symptoms in childhood. • Male sex and maternal smoking were linked to poorer behavioural scores. • Higher parental education and parity were associated with lower symptom levels. • MT1DP rs8044719 GT+TT carriers showed higher hyperactivity at higher Cd levels.
