Preparation of axon/polypyrrole composite via interfacial polymerization, and electro-magnetic measurements

Polypyrrole (PPy) as a conducting polymer was synthesized on axon from a squid. During the polymerization of pyrrole, resultant PPy was deposited on the axon for formation of axon/PPy composite. Electron spin resonance measurement revealed that the composite showed a wide line-width of 62.3 mT centered at g = 2.035, corresponding to the Delta M-s = +/- 1 transition, and a half-field resonance with Delta H-pp = 24.9 mT was observed at the forbidden transition Delta M-s = +/- 2. This half-field resonance near H = 150 mT indicates that the spins are in the ground triplet state. While, total magnetism of the composite was paramagnetism evaluated with a superconducting quantum interference device. AC conduction showing beat wave in the oscilloscope observations implies that occurrence of mixed electrical conduction of the conducting polymer and ionic conduction of axon.
