• A database of SWCCs for residual soils over Korea is developed from literature. • Copula is applied to model the bivariate uncertain data with nonlinear dependence structure. • A variety of copula and marginal functions are evaluated to optimize the probabilistic SWCC. • The importance of a probabilistic SWCC is demonstrated using example calculations.
