Synthetic chemistry underpins the discovery and manufacture of medicines, agrochemicals, materials, and countless products that impact modern society. Traditionally, progress in synthesis has been driven by the development of new chemical reactions that reduce the number of steps required to access a target molecule. However, advances in automation, computation, and reactor technology are increasingly changing not only what chemists can make but also how efficiently they can discover, optimize, and implement new synthetic routes.
