• A morphology-informed FE framework was developed for corroded H-section beams under patch loading. • Realistic corrosion pit geometry and spatial distribution were explicitly incorporated into the FE models. • Corrosion severity drives resistance degradation, while web slenderness governs the sensitivity to corrosion. • A corrosion-induced reduction factor was proposed for improved and safer design assessment.
