Abstract

• Many materials used in organic light-emitting diode fabrication can spontaneously order to support large internal electric fields (spontaneous orientation polarization) • A comparison of two electron transport molecules with similar structure and energetics where one has large spontaneous orientation polarization in organic LEDs results in vastly differing efficiencies • The very different device efficiencies can be explained because orientation affects the charge distribution in the device which in turn can affect the emissive efficiency of the dye doped into the electron transport layer
