• Single-amine NBIM integrates CO₂ hydrogenation and formic acid separation. • Using Ru-MACHO-POMP, AAR-guided optimization defined a practical reaction–separation window. • A single-amine approach removes the need for an amine-exchange step in CO₂-to-formic acid production. • The integrated assessment confirms the feasibility of a single-amine route toward economically viable and sustainable formic acid production.
