• Single 233 nm far UV-C exposure causes minimal DNA damage, all within safe limits. • Elderly and dark-skinned individuals show higher residual damage 24 h after exposure. • No changes for p53, langerin and antioxidant capacity for all groups and time points. • DNA repair begins within 24 h, with nearly all damage repaired after 7 days. • Repeated 233 nm far UV-C exposure leads to CPD accumulation.
