• The middle slope of the subalpine road cut-slope is the area with the most severe erosion-induced carbon loss. • Mineral protection is still an important way of OC sequestration on alpine erode slopes. • Increased 2–0.25 mm aggregates content is significantly correlated with reduced Fe-OC on eroded slopes. • POC, Fe-OC and Fep are important indicators to predict soil erosion. • Hydrolytic enzymes and oxidases accelerate turnover of POC and Fe-OC at a higher degree of erosion.
