• Nectar secretion in ‘Tarocco’ blood orange peaks within the first 48 h post-anthesis. • Early floral tZR accumulation coincides with rapid starch buildup in the nectary. • Peak floral GA3 and amylase activity align with rapid nectary starch hydrolysis. • Reduced floral ABA levels are associated with stomatal opening during peak nectar exudation. • Nectary senescence is accompanied by IAA-associated nutrient reallocation for fruit set.
