• Dynamic decoupling of floc and granule SRTs demonstrated in a full-scale DAS system. • A new granular-weighted SRT metric is introduced for DAS systems. • Full-scale results show that gwSRTDAS substantially exceeds bulk SRT. • gwSRTDAS metric may help redefine the nitrification washout threshold in DAS. • Biochemical methane potential is strongly correlated with gwSRTDAS.
