• SDVWA5 inhibited five aquatic pathogens (>97.78%); supernatant MIC 3.25–6.25%. • SDVWA5 removed NH4+-N/NO2--N (>94.86%) and H2S (>89.03%), with excellent environmental adaptability. • Pathogen inhibition via organic acids (low pH), class II bacteriocins, and EPS. • N removal via ANRA and denitrification; S removal potentially via the rDsr pathway. • Provides the first preliminary evidence supporting sulfide-removal potential in Lactobacillus.
