• A novel high-entropy halide electrolyte of Li2.8In0.7Y0.05Er0.05Hf0.1Zr0.1Cl6 was prepared. • The thermal stability of Li2.8In0.7Y0.05Er0.05Hf0.1Zr0.1Cl6 electrolyte was investigated. • The electrochemical stability of Li2.8In0.7Y0.05Er0.05Hf0.1Zr0.1Cl6 electrolyte was explored.
