• The addition of OS to DOA can improve the gasification performance of DOA. • A significant synergistic effect was observed at an OS/DOA mass ratio of 6:4 and a temperature of 1200 °C. • Co-gasification with DOA restructured the morphology of the residue. • The gasification synergy is ascribed to the activity of AAEMs and Fe.
