Abstract

• Seed harvest of 12 broadleaved species analysed with 20 years of national data. • NAO index showed strongest link to seed harvest, followed by precipitation, and temperature. • Dominant 2–2.5-year masting cycles found in most broadleaved species, longer cycles in few less used tree species. • Results confirm that climate triggers drive interspecific synchrony in seed harvests. • Findings support foundation for forecasting of mast years for sustainable forest regeneration planning.
