• A synergistic strategy combining alloy purification and cryogenic processing is proposed. • The effects of second-phase particles and grain heterogeneity on SPDT surface formation are revealed. • Cryo-DA produces a uniform nanoscale subgrain structure (∼300 nm) by suppressing recrystallization. • High-purity 6061 Al achieves an ultralow surface roughness of ∼1.8 nm after SPDT, reduced by over 50%.
