• TA25 EVF chimneys exhibit significant Te enrichment, reaching up to 1650 ppm. • Te occurs both as lattice-bound components in sulfides and discrete polymetallic tellurides and native Te. • Reduced hydrothermal fluids is a key control on lattice-bound Te incorporation into sulfides. • Fluid–seawater mixing and sulfide recrystallization promote telluride and native Te formation. • Transient polymetallic melts may also contribute to Au enrichment.
