• The δ18O analyses of K-feldspar reveal a magmatic source for the initial fluids. • A two-stage model is proposed, involving invisible Au enrichment in pre-ore, As-rich pyrite and syn-ore visible Au precipitation facilitated by fluid boiling, mixing and Te-rich metallic melts. • The Dabaiyang deposit is reclassified as an oxidized intrusion-related gold system rather than an epithermal deposit.
