In this letter, an optimization method for circular multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) array topology is proposed for short-range imaging with full-angle observation. The approach relies on the principle of achieving a more uniformly distributed wavenumber spectrum. In the optimization process, an offset angle theta(offset) between the uniform transmitting and receiving arrays was devised as an adjustment factor for the relative positions of the transmitting and receiving arrays. The grid-based uniformity indicator (GUI) was introduced to evaluate the wavenumber spectrum uniformity (WSU) of circular MIMO arrays for different theta(offset) values. The WSU values were calculated and compared for different arrays based on their GUI. The array demonstrating the lowest GUI, signifying optimal WSU, was chosen as the best configuration. Simulation results validated the superior performance of this optimal array, displaying reduced sidelobe levels in both central and multipoint imaging scenarios. Therefore, the proposed array could achieve better imaging quality while significantly reducing the number of elements.
