• Paal-Knorr functionalization enables precise structure-rheology tuning of alternating aliphatic polyketones. • HSQC, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR confirm the formation of pyrrole-based units along the modified polyketone backbone. • Flexible aliphatic side chains promote chain relaxation and melt processability for potential extrusion or injection molding. • Rigid pendant groups induce strong supramolecular interactions and gel-like behaviour for potential structural materials.
