• A novel catalytic adsorbent was prepared by one-step pyrolysis from spent biochar. • The maximum adsorption capacity of P-CABC-750 for ciprofloxacin was 8.57 mg/g. • The degradation rate of CIP by P-CABC-750 activated PMS reached 91.22%. • The spent biochar after pyrolysis at 750°C showed good regeneration performance.
