从出生开始，视觉在认知和关系发展中扮演着关键角色。这引发了一个问题：视觉缺陷和异常在自闭症儿童的沟通和社会互动障碍、刻板行为以及受限兴趣中可能扮演何种角色。此外，自闭症儿童被发现存在视觉功能障碍，但这些缺陷并非特异于自闭症，也见于其他具有特发性、神经性或遗传性起源的神经发育障碍，这些障碍在早期发展中出现并影响认知、运动和社会领域。本文探讨了视觉在儿童认知和社会发展中的作用，回顾了自闭症及其他神经发育条件中的视觉功能障碍，并最终强调了对自闭症儿童进行早期筛查和管理视觉功能障碍的潜在益处。
