This paper proposes an XDependency description model and language that can be used as part of a distributed integrity control system for XML data resources. The dependency description language allows relationships to be specified between XML data available from different organizations. The paper also includes a prototype agent-based system capable of enforcing distributed dependency relationships. An XDependency maintenance system should make it possible to automate the distributed integrity control for XML resources. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
