• Exogenous Zn increased the contents of ginsenoside Ro, Rb3, Rh2, and TG. • Exogenous Zn significantly affected SOM, N, P, S, Fe, and Si. • Exogenous Zn significantly increased the activities of ACP, GLS, and Prot. • Zn1 retarded the change of microbiome in continuous cultivation of ginseng. • Exogenous Zn changed the accumulation pattern of ginsenosides.
