Abstract

The field of two-dimensional (2D) materials has experienced explosive growth over the past two decades, roughly in parallel with similarly exciting developments in the field of topological materials. There are a number of 2D materials known to have a topologically nontrivial electronic structure, as well as those that form moiré superlattices when twisted. However, an exhaustive computational search for these properties in 2D materials has not been performed. Petralanda et al. adapted methods previously used for 3D materials to characterize topological properties of 2D materials and built an online database. Jiang et al. then screened this database for materials that could be predicted theoretically to be “twistable,” providing a guide for future studies of 2D moiré systems. —Jelena Stajic
