• A novel DTW framework accurately extracts lead–lag relationships from coal-fired power plant data. • The method removes local alignment errors and improves time-series matching accuracy by over 90%. • Application to real plant data reveals turbine–boiler control interactions and lead–lag energy flow behaviors.
