• A novel dual-population LSMOEA based on decision variable analysis is proposed. • Two contribution degrees are introduced to quantify variables’ contribution in MOPs. • An adaptive resource allocation mechanism based on contribution degrees is adopted. • Reference population-based strategy and individual exchange mechanism are designed.
