E-vehicles are new challenge from meteorological point of view. There is no calibration facility able to implement compliance test and or certify the energy efficiency of involved parts. Characterization of Power Electronic Devices in terms of wasted energy and energy efficiency, remains an issue not yet fully covered by standards or the metrological research. To this aim, in this article is described a metrological laboratory specifically designed for testing electronic devices employed in Electric Vehicles applications and measure the actual efficiency of the whole energy conversion chain used in electric traction, starting from the charger, taking into account losses on battery during both charging and discharging, and on traction converters, up to losses on electric motors. A preliminary characterization to quantify the error and related uncertainty of DC power generated by the main DC source employed in the laboratory is presented.
