• BNC at 18 g ha−1 enables 30% nitrogen reduction without yield penalty in peanut. • HY5 acts as a shoot-to-root signal linking carbon assimilation to nitrogen uptake. • Root exudate reprogramming recruits N-cycling bacteria, boosting rhizosphere N availability. • Nitrogen use efficiency improved by 16.0% with 34.8% reduction in GHG emissions. • Net profit increased by 27.0%, offering a scalable and low-cost agri-climate solution.
