This letter presents a new scheme for measuring parameters in resonant grounded distribution networks (RGDNs) as these parameters significantly affect the fault compensation characteristics. The proposed adaptive scheme is developed based on the dynamical model of RGDNs with residual current compensation (RCC) inverters in which all parameters except the fault impedance is considered as unknown and parameter adaptation laws are designed to measure key parameters such as the leakage resistance, leakage capacitance, and inductance of the arc suppression coil. The proposed scheme also simultaneously compensates the fault behaviors through the RCC inverter as the desired fault compensation (i.e., the fault current and faulty phase voltage safe enough) is considered the basis for parameter measurement. The parameters are measured for different fault impedances to demonstrate the parameter measurement capability of the proposed adaptive scheme. Simulation results under different fault conditions with different initial values of key parameters in RGDNs clearly show that the proposed scheme accurately measures key parameters while achieving desired fault compensation.
