• We propose a pair-based mean-field model for contagion on simplicial complexes. • The model includes pairwise correlations, improving on standard mean-field methods. • Using a fast-variable approach, we derive an expression for the contagion threshold. • We show that group interactions matter more in sparse structures with few dyads. • Simulations confirm that our model predicts the contagion dynamics accurately.
