• KAS-Zn-Fe HTlc nanosystem was developed by a facile one-step method. • KAS-Zn-Fe HTlc exhibits acid-responsive release of KAS and Zn2+. • KAS-Zn-Fe HTlc enhances the thermal stability and photostability of KAS. • KAS-Zn-Fe HTlc exhibits dual-mode synergetic antibacterial activity. • KAS-Zn-Fe HTlc shows no phytotoxicity to crops at tested concentrations.
