• Fish are suitable models for investigating chemically-induced Leydig cell hyperplasia (LCH) • Chemically-induced LCH in mammals involves a variety of direct and indirect mechanisms • Few examples exist of chemically-induced LCH in fish, and some are of questionable credibility • Diagnosis of chemically-induced LCH in fish can involve species-specific factors • Current evidence does not suggest that LCH itself should be considered adverse in fish
