• An adaptive reference-guided subregion division strategy is proposed to enhance the distribution of the Pareto solution set in the objective space. • A multi-directional exploration strategy is proposed to expand the exploration capability of the optimizer. • A tri-stage updating strategy is proposed to overcome the limitations of traditional CSO variants that mainly focus on loser updating.
