• We conducted a large-scale survey on autonomous driving systems (ADS) with practitioners and researchers. • We investigate the testing techniques on modular and end-to-end ADS. • We are particularly focusing on the V2X communication and the emerging role of foundation models. • We summarize the demands and future directions of emerging techniques in testing.
