• Cortical thickness from high resolution peripheral quantitative CT can be performed. • Two new methods building on previous Cortical Bone Mapping were proposed. • Tests on knee, distal radius and distal tibia images include sensitivity analyses. • Accuracy of fit was excellent compared to current standard from micro-CT. • The implementation of these methods is available in a public repository.
