This study introduces an age-structured epidemic model to analyse the transmission dynamics and control strategies for COVID-19 across different age groups. By incorporating key epidemiological factors such as age-specific mortality, infection age, vaccination and disease induced death age structure, the model offers a realistic simulation of disease progression and the impact of age-targeted vaccination policies. The stability analysis and the basic reproduction number (R0) of agestructured epidemic model are evaluated. The model further integrates optimal control theory, particularly focusing on agespecific vaccination as a means of reducing infection rates and minimizing COVID-19-induced mortality. This age-structured approach contributes a powerful tool for public health planning, offering guidance for minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and reducing mortality across various age groups. Our findings reinforce the importance of age-sensitive intervention strategies, underlining how targeted vaccination policies can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of disease control efforts during a pandemic.
