• Salt type, not intensity alone, dictates the bottleneck of phosphorus (P) availability. • Alkalization caused stronger P availability limitation than salinization by shifting P from labile to occluded pools. • Stress redistributes macroaggregate-P toward silt + clay, especially under soda-type soils. • Soda-type soils show stronger P adsorption and weaker desorption than chloride-type soils.
