• Develops an adaptive bubble-based topology optimization framework with fewer design variables and clear boundaries. • Expand adaptive bubble method in terms of loading conditions, to solve coupled thermo-mechanical problems. • Expand adaptive bubble method in terms of dimensionality, to solve 3D structural optimization problems. • Different thermal gradients and mechanical loads can significantly alter the optimized structure.
